Destinations

At Il Galante we organise trips to tourist destinations with or without a guide. The below list will give you an idea of the destinations you are able to visit with our tours.
Please note that these are just suggestions, there are many other towns and areas to visit.
Our region offers beautiful landscapes, a rich history, and great food that will make your stay unforgettable!

Ginosa

Ginosa is surrounded by 3 km of Gravine that was, in past centuries, the scene of a rock settlement, dug in the tuff caves.

The historic centre is dominated by the Norman Castle, erected in 1080 by Roberto il Guiscardo to defend his people against Saracen raids, and the Mother Church dedicated to the SS. Rosario.

Get lost in the narrow and cobbled alleys in Ginosa and admire views of the Gravina, the most prominent attraction of the area.

Matera

Experience Matera, 30 km from Ginosa, named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. This town has also been awarded European Capital of Culture 2019. Matera offers thousands of reasons to visit, one being the extraordinary beauty of the area. The historic centre, the Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches of Matera make the entire city an open-air museum.

Taranto

A little more than 50 km from Ginosa, is a city that is a must for visitors in the area. It is known for its bridges, a castle overlooking the two seas and its beautiful archaeological museum, the MArTA. This museum, with its famous gold objects, testifies how Taranto was the leader of the fascinating Magna Grecia (the Greater Greece Empire) era.

Palatine Tables

The Tavole Palatine (Palatine Tables) is located in Bernalda, less than 20 km from Ginosa. Here you will find the well-preserved remains of a peripteral hexastyle Greek temple, dedicated to the goddess Hera.

This hidden treasure will amaze you, especially with the atmosphere, the colours you’ll experience during sunset and the beautiful night lights.

It promises to be an unforgettable experience.

The Angel Flight "Il Volo dell'Angelo" - Dolomiti Lucane

If you are looking for an unique experience, you cannot miss the Angel Flight. This structure will slide you 400 meters high into the air! Here you will be able to view the breath-taking scenery above the Lucanian Dolomites, as well as two of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa.

It’s time for an adventure in nature while discovering the beautiful area!

Castellana Grotte

Less than 50 km from Ginosa you will find the Castellaneta Caves welcoming guests to the Itria valley with its amazing grandeur.

Defined as the most beautiful karst caves in Italy, they offer a beautiful, memorable experience.

The best time to visit is in the summer. Make sure not miss the Speleonights! This truly unique experience takes you down the caves at night – it will enchant you!

Alberobello

If you are willing to go on a little road trip along a dusty road, less than 60 km from Ginosa, you can visit Alberobello, announced a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.

The Trulli of Alberobello is famous across Italy. The historic centre consists entirely of these unique, conical-roofed whitewashed structures. This peaceful part of southern Italy is the only area where you can see this. It is truly a one-of-a-kind sight.

A visit to the most authentic parts of Puglia will leave you more than amazed!
